History of Nobel Prize

The Nobel Prize is an international award administered by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden, and based on the fortune of Alfred Nobel.

Alfred Nobel was a Swedish chemist, engineer, and industrialist most famously known for the invention of dynamite. He died in 1896. In his will, he bequeathed all of his “remaining realizable assets” to be used to establish five prizes which became known as “Nobel Prizes”.

Nobel Prizes are given to the people from 5 fields i.e.  PhysicsChemistryPhysiology or MedicineLiterature, and Peace

Each recipient receives a green gold medal plated with 24 karat gold, a diploma, and a monetary award as per the current year.

Rabindranath Tagore

Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) is a Bengali Poet awarded the Prestigious Nobel Prize in the year of 1913 for  Literature.

His contribution towards literature is Gitanjali. He translated it from Bengali to English.

Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman

Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman (1888-1970) is a Physicist from Tiruchirappalli, Bangalore, Karnataka.

He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930 for his contribution towards Physics well known as “Raman Effect”. He had worked on the scattering of light and discovered the effect named after him.
